NYS Senator Gustavo Rivera Visits Blythedale Children's Hospital
On October 9, NYS Senator Gustavo Rivera (Bronx) stopped by Blythedale Children's Hospital. The ranking member of the NYS Senate Health Committee toured the Valhalla facility alongside Blythedale hospital administrators Larry Levine, President & CEO, and Adam Herbst, Chief Legal, Planning and Government Relations Officer.
First stop was the renowned Infant & Toddler Unit that provides post acute neonatal care, as well as the treatment of various diagnoses such as complex chronic conditions, neuromuscular disorders, pulmonary hypertension and more. Blytheadle neonatalogist Dr. Tracy Lawrence-Black also spoke about the extensive Parent and Caregiver Training that helps educate how to care for their medically complex child when discharged home.
Afterwards, the Senator spoke with Blythedale's Pediatric, Adolescent & Traumatic Brain Injury Unit Chief Dr. Kathy Silverman about the state's only dedicated post-acute pediatric brain injury unit at the Hospital. As the visit continued, Senator Rivera was shown Blythedale's new, state-of-the-art assistive technology center by its director, Julie Knitter, and then the Steven and Alexandra Cohen Pediatric Long Term Care Pavilion, a 24-bed facility dedicated to the highly specialized needs of infants and children who require extended medical care and rehabilitation.
