A Rockin’ Celebration of Blythedale
Honoree and radio legend Scott Shannon served as master of ceremonies for the Hospital's annual gala which was held at the elegant Current at Chelsea Piers. This year's event celebrated Shannon's 31 years of holiday broadcasts to benefit Blythedale Children's Hospital and also honored longtime supporter Gene Ferrara. In addition, Patty Steele was presented with the Changemaker Award for her myriad contributions to the Hospital over the years. In keeping with the Rock & Roll theme, Tim McLoone and Holiday Express - who have ushered in the holidays at Blythedale for nearly three decades - performed for guests throughout the night.
Attendees listened to heartfelt remarks by Blythedale Board Chair Scott Levy and the Hospital's president & CEO, Larry Levine, as well as each of the honorees. The emotion was palpable as each honoree shared their unique perspective on how their lives have been impacted by Blythedale Children's Hospital and its inspiring patients, families and staff.
"People say to me, 'Thank you for what you do for Blythedale,' and I say, 'No, I thank them for what Blythedale does for me,'" said Shannon.
Other highlights from the night included the exciting, live “mission moment” led by charity auctioneer C.K. Swett, who raised $269,000 for Blythedale's Parent and Family Education program in a mere 10 minutes, and the short film, Going Home, which featured three incredible families who have received extensive training in their child's medical care in preparation of their discharge home.
"This was a very special evening," said Levine. "It was truly an honor to celebrate the extraordinary contributions of our three honorees, all of whom have made a profound impact on the lives of our patients. They are compassionate and generous beyond measure, and we are blessed by their friendship."
