Blythedale Hits the Small Screen
Blythedale’s Upper Extremity Summer Program was featured on News 12 Westchester and Verizon FiOS1-Lower Hudson Valley on Monday, August 7th. The specialized, six-week program is designed to focus on helping pediatric patients with decreased use of one upper extremity due to hemiplegia or hemiparesis as a result of cerebral palsy, traumatic brain injury, stroke or other diagnoses. Now in its seventh year, pediatric occupational therapists work with nearly 20 children to help improve their motor functions on their weaker extremity for use in daily life.
Appearing in the news broadcasts was nine-year-old Anthony Pastore of Harrison, NY, a longtime Upper Extremity Summer Program patient. Anthony, his parents and Ka Lai (Kelly) Au, Senior Occupational Therapist at Blythedale Children’s Hospital, were interviewed by both TV stations for each comprehensive story. Self-care and sports activities were also highlighted during the news coverage as part of the program’s use of constrained induced and bimanual therapies.
