As the hospital with the largest departments of

• speech pathology and audiology,
• respiratory therapy, and
• recreation therapy

in New York State, dedicated solely to providing services to children, Blythedale’s approach to treating children with complex medical problems is widely recognized as a national model of excellence.

With more than 125 employees representing the various therapeutic disciplines, the goal of the therapy departments is to maximize each child’s fullest potential, through an integrated multi-disciplinary treatment plan.

Every patient admitted to Blythedale is evaluated by one of the Hospital’s physiatrists, and their individual therapy needs are determined. Weekly therapy coordination conferences are held to bring together each child’s multi-disciplinary team for the purpose of assessing treatment and looking forward to discharge planning.

In addition, Blythedale has recognized a growing need in the community-at-large for school-based therapy services. Blythedale now provides therapy outsourcing services on a full, partial or interim basis to numerous schools in the surrounding counties.
