Our Programs and Services
Each Inpatient and Day Hospital unit is coordinated by a full-time pediatrician and nurse practitioner expert in the special medical, emotional and educational needs of the children on their unit. These needs vary greatly, for our patients come with a wide variety of medical problems including traumatic brain injury, burns, organ failure (pre- and post-transplant), feeding disorders, complications of prematurity, respiratory, cardiac, genetic, orthopedic, rheumatologic and neurologic disorders. With over 100 years of experience, we have developed many innovative multidisciplinary programs. Our Day Hospital is designed for patients who live at home but still require a level of medical and rehabilitative care that cannot be met by their school or an outpatient program. Children are able to receive their medical care and rehabilitation while attending the Mt. Pleasant Blythedale Union-Free School. In our Outpatient Department, a wide variety of medical specialty services are available, including unique programs devoted to Spasticity and Spina Bifida. These programs developed as a result of a questioning process that is ongoing at Blythedale at all levels. What is needed? How can we provide it? How can we improve the continuum of care for our patients? Our philosophy of care is based on coordination of services individualized to the needs of each of our patients. Often our patients do not just have one medical home, they may have several. Our referring physicians and institutions rely on our ability to communicate with them before, during and after their patient’s stay at Blythedale. We understand their connections to our patients and their families. The care they provided our patients before coming to Blythedale, and the relationships they will continue to have with them afterwards, is an essential part of the long-term management of our patients. |
